Volume Data Inspection Tools for Industrial Computed Tomography

Industrial computed tomography (CT) has opened a new paradigm in product inspection fields. In contrary to other 3D inspection devices, industrial CT systems can completely digitize the interior as well as the exterior of nearly any object. Without any destructive testing, an object’s failures can be detected by volume data analysis from industrial CT scan data. In this paper, we present a set of industrial CT inspection techniques: volume rendering, dimensioning, transformation of orientation, failure analysis inspection, surface extraction, and CAD comparison. These analysis tools help to make full use of the benefits of industrial CT scanning.
